Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday mourned those killed in the April 14 devastating earthquake in the northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai.
At the Chinese embassy here in Islamabad, Zardari stood in silent tribute for one minute and then left a message on the condolence book.
"It is with great sorrow that we condole the lives of thousands of people lost in the earthquake of April 14, 2010. The Pakistani people feel the loss like it is their own and grieve with their Chinese brothers. We are confident that the brave and resolute Chinese people will undoubtedly overcome the effects of this natural calamity under its able and sagacious leadership," Zardari wrote in the message.
Some Pakistani officials and friends also visited the Chinese embassy to mourn the quake victims.
In a brief meeting with Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui, Zardari said that the Pakistani government is ready to provide any necessary aid to the Chinese side to help overcome the difficulties.
Wednesday is the National Mourning Day for the Qinghai quake victims. The Chinese national flag at the Chinese embassy is at half mast.
Over 100 people representing the Chinese embassy, Chinese companies, students, Chinese employees in the United Nations organizations, overseas Chinese associations and media visited the embassy to mourn the victims. |
